A Bit About My Background |
Byron (Sonny) Kennedy, a lifelong resident of District 23, is offering to be your full time HRM councillor. He and his wife, Roma, have a daughter, Stephanie and he is an active community volunteer. For example, he is a member of his local Home Owners Association and served on a community planning committee. He serves as a Stewart at St. Luke's United Church and is on auction and yard sales committees. Sonny also coached a local girls bantam softball team and boys hockey team. He is a registered member of the institute of Transportation Engineers and has served as the Traffic Authority in the former City of Halifax for 18 years. He presently is a principal in a transportation and planning company. He will resign to become your full time councillor. |

My Objectives |
Byron will insist on responsible fiscal management to control such issues as escalating taxes. For example, all major contracts should be publicly tendered and there should be no more long term contracts. HRM should not continue to spend our municipal tax revenue on Provincial affairs and should not make contributions to other municipalities. With his extensive background and experience in urban and rural planning, he will ensure that the pending planning goals, objectives and alternatives, reflect what the residents want now and in the future. A number of transportation safety issue have been identified to him while on the campaign trail in the Hammonds Plains area. Traffic controls must be adopted to provide safe access for pedestrians, especially school age pedestrians, and regulations must be in place for motorists. It is imperative that all safety controls are in place in such areas as the new school location. High traffic volume, speeding, excessive truck traffic have to be addressed. Also, there have been questions regarding the HRM water service extensions. Byron will investigate the existing water service district boundaries policy. |
